On 14 January 2009 the organisation ‘Les Amis de Gambie’ opened an orphanage in Gambia: Sinchu Orphanage. When Nieske, Marielle, Christa and her daughter Noa (11), heared that the founder of the orphanage was terminally ill, they wanted to do something to support the children in Sinchu Orphanage. This resulted in a big donation of 30 big boxes full of food, clothing and products for personal hygiene. Next to this, they decided to travel to Gambia and meet the kids in person. During their visit they organised creative workshops, in which they printed portrait pictures of of the kids and cut them in half. Next, they taught the children to finish their own selfportrait: "We wanted to teach them to look at themselves and to see how beautiful and perfect they actually are", explains Marielle.
The Royal Talens Foundation supported these volunteers by providing the material for the workshop(s). To discover more about Les Amis de Gambie and the orphanage, visit their website.
